So how DO you STAND OUT in a sea of BLACK?

So how DO you STAND OUT in a sea of BLACK?

So I watched the Golden Globes last night, mostly to see the actors on my favourite show, This is Us, and to see how the crazy movie I loved, The Disaster Artist, did............oh, and when I heard that the real Tommy Wiseau was going to be there, then I was hooked!

But in reality, despite the above, it is always about the dresses! We all know it is! So here is my own personal view........... Black dresses are the ultimate blank canvas on which to showcase your jewellery, and some, in my opinion, were hits, and some, well they totally missed the plate.

One theme I found throughout is that so many of the women wearing black felt that the only choice they had was to wear rhinestone jewellery (actually I suppose in their case they were Diamonds), all clear and colourless so as to match with the black. On the other hand, the women below decided to go over and above and take that blank canvas and express their own individual personality, so that they would stand out from the crowd (so to say). I just love how many decided to go with Green as an accent colour.

"Green, the color of life, renewal, nature, and energy, is associated with meanings of growth, harmony, freshness, safety, fertility, and environment. Green is also traditionally associated with money, finances, banking, ambition, greed, jealousy, and wall street" - source Bournecreative.com

Now which of those 2 meanings were they going with? LOL, we will never know, but I will side with the first one, and say that they chose green in order to portray a sense of harmony and freshness!

If not the green, then others chose to wear pearls, or another colour, or just load up on strands of necklaces like Viola Davis did; that was the first thing you noticed when she came out on stage (other than of course her hair), and Alison Janney found the perfect earrings to complement the black and white dress she wore!

But others just left me questioning, where's your necklace? why leave all that exposed skin with nothing? why not do long earrings and skip the necklace? why so boring?

I know this one everyone will kill me for, but I think Reese Witherspoon's earrings lacked any "oomph". She would have been better off with long earrings that would complement her long neck and balance out the one shoulder gown. I personally think she left too much open space.

Love Helen Mirren, but why put a necklace over the lace of such a complex fabric, as you can see it will never exactly match up with the neckline of the dress. Gorgeous necklace, just overkill in my opinion, and you end up fiddling with it all night to make sure it lines up.

All that space, why such a tiny necklace? There was so much potential there..........

Stunning necklace, stunning gown, too much competition. I think she would have been better off with long earrings instead of a short necklace so close to a top with such detail, give it some space to shine and complement the design with long shimmering earrings.

All that space.......... it is just crying for a necklace to finish it off, again I find that it is off balance. I have never understood why the women that wear those kinds of plunging necklines leave the skin all open, you have so much space that you can fill, in my opinion perfect for a lariat necklace!

So that is a wrap, my take on who pulled off the right jewellery for the dress, and who did not. Feel free to let me know your thoughts, do you agree with me? or feel that I am totally out to lunch? Let me know!
